AUDITION
REQUIREMENTS
Auditions and Seating Auditions, Saturday, August 24, 10am-2pm
Auditions will be at the John Legend Theater
SPRINGFIELD YOUTH SYMPHONY (SYS)

Open to strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion. At least 3 years of playing experience, private lessons preferred.
One solo piece or etude
2 Octave scales up to 4 sharps and 4 flats
Sight-reading
Percussion – (1) solo piece or etude on one of the following instruments: snare drum, timpani, or mallet percussion. Demonstrate major scales up to 4 sharps and 4 flats on mallet percussion
SPRINGFIELD YOUTH CHAMBER
ORCHESTRA (SYCO)

Open to strings only. A minimum of one year playing in your school music program, or one year of private lessons. Must be able to read music.
One solo piece or etude demonstrating skills into 3rd position
Major scales C, D, G (2 octaves)
Sight-reading
SPRINGFIELD YOUTH STRING
ENSEMBLE (SYSE)

Open to strings only. A minimum of one year playing in your school music program, or one year of private lessons. Must be able to read music.
One solo piece or etude
Scales:
Violin – D Major (1 octave) and G Major (2 octaves)
Viola and Cello – D Major (1 octave) and C Major (2 octaves)
Bass – D Major (1 octave) and G Major (1 octave)
Sight-reading
SPRINGFIELD YOUTH CHOIR & CHILDREN'S CHOIRS (SYC & SCC)

Open to students grades 3–12. Experience singing in a group setting preferred, but not required.
Audition requirements for new students:
Prepare to sing a common tune (I.e. “America”, a hymn, etc.)
Voice Assessment with conductor
Pitch matching
Part Identification
Ensemble Skills

Returning students may be required to have a part placement audition at the beginning of the season.
